Yes! Big fan of Brene Brown and Kristin Neff. Life-changing reading and re-reading for me and their work has really helped me to cope with caring for my son and my Dad over the last few years - and myself in the middle!

ME TOO!! I was introduced to Brené's work in 2015 and was SO relieved with every book. If you loved their work, look around Carer Mentor for the work of Susan David, her TedTalk is on the homepage - Emotional Agility - aka what caregivers do every millisecond of each day ;-)

You're welcome, I'm sure it can offer reassurance and empathy to those who need it. We all need to know that it's 'not just me' feeling this. Thank you!

So connected it's cool! I'll link your other articles too. I posted this on Feb 18 alongside 'Prelude to caregiving' and 'Life grows around grief' to temper the tough feelings. I appreciate your perspective and being able to connect your article here.

This was super insightful, Victoria - loved it. I came across the idea of intentional self compassion when I was quite young - but at the time never quite "got it". But now I'm circling back to it and it really feels like a missing piece.

Interesting to read about its effects on cortisol too. I've never come across Kristin Neff, but I will be deepdiving now!

Thank you for sharing this!

Very welcome, Zan! The guided meditations on her website are really useful. Self-compassion and empathy go well together.
