Eek! So sorry all this happened. I'm glad it ultimately worked out. I'm also glad you are seeking some respite time. It's so hard when our situation doesn't allow for extended periods of rest, but even getting away for a few hours can make such a difference.
You are so much kinder than I! My reaction to the driver would have been a sympathetic “Yes, and just imagine how much harder it would be to breathe if I had to haul you into court for deliberately causing grievous harm to my sick mother!”
🤣 I hear you, hon. This is why we need an advocate for the advocate ;-)
It's not kindness, it's self-preservation- I've no extra energy to waste. Unfortunately, this is why people/things/organisations 'can get away' with a lot of things...and why we need more advocates for us (caregivers & less able/with chronic disease). I was satisfied I'd at least said something.
One-liners escape us in-the-moment - SO frustrating. But then, there are SO many of these moments we're partly desensitised and just want it over with.
Maybe we need to set up a goto list of one-liners to have handy!
I can feel your stress and frustration! I have had this experience while waiting with my mother after she had a follow-up from her fall. A service took us and took hours to get back to us. I politely explained that she's diabetic and waiting was not acceptable.
What I learned was to schedule the pickup time and drop off at the same time, even if they have to wait.
I use to drive a Honda Pilot SUV and had a step stool for my mom to get into. I switched cars with my husband so I can maneuver my mom into the sedan. Much easier and safer.
Just like switching from a sports car to a van or SUV with kids. When caring for parents sometimes have to make that switch so that they are safe!

Wishing you the best!
Thanks, Chris. Exactly. I hope you're managing to get some quality rest time, I'm sure your book is taking up a lot of energy. Wishing you well.
Thanks Victoria! The book is taking longer than I'd hoped, but I'm at least taking frequent breaks. Perhaps, too many breaks 😂

But you are a good person. 😀

I would totally make that list.
I hereby happily delegate, 'Badass one-liners that we all need to Emily' AND super-spouse... ;-)

Glad you're taking some time for you!
Thanks, Janine. I knew you and many within our community would understand!
Yup, we keep pivoting, learning, adapting and 'can-do-ing'
My tolerance level is low when I'm in protection mode! ;-)
Thanks for sharing the article. I hope your managing and life's treating you well. xo
I am so glad you’re planning a few days away! Just what the Dr ordered, rest is essential. ❤️
Oh goodness Victoria! What a nightmare! Really feeling your pain through that whole experience. So glad you've been able to organise some respite xx
Thanks, Debbie🩷 I'm blessed I can do a few days away. I know it's not easy/possible for many people. xo
