I’ve got something brewing to share… I’m really excited to dive into this important topic!
Thank you for listing all the collaborators - I’m looking forward to reading their contributions and learning more about them.
Thank you to ALL of you for your vulnerability, compassion and time. I’m so glad that crying, tears, emotion and how to support people through their grief and sadness is getting much deserved attention.
I’m looking forward to seeing what others contribute. I’ve been fighting tears all day over Gisele Pelicot - big feelings. Trying to decide what makes the most sense for this collab and realizing I’ve got a lot of stories related to crying!
Let them all out, short, long we'll be happy to receive and share them. Please don't feel confined to the timing of the collab or pressured, you can noodle and share later and I can add it ...the contents page is about to expand with the work of others...
So happy to be a part of the team! Also very excited about the open invitation to others who’d like to join in, I think it perfectly lets us create the ripples that were intended 💚
Beautiful. It's amazing how many clients apologise for crying in session, while I usually feel a moment of success when someone makes contact with their tears. It feels like they have released a layer of something they were carrying and left it in my room. They often leave a tiny bit lighter and more connected to themselves. I try to encourage them to stay with it a little longer if they can, we are a society of avoiders/distractors by and large. I've always been someone who cries easily, it comes very naturally to me. It's other emotions (like anger) I have struggled with. Look forward to reading your contributions 😊
Thank you Vicki - if you have the time and space to write a short piece we'd welcome your piece, and sharing the URL here. In my conversation with Ben we discussed how we receive tears, I'd be interested to hear your reflections. xo
In terms of receiving tears, I think the key is just to hold space. As the recipient, to get quiet within your own being and not rush to fill the space or to encourage the other person to 'feel better'. Not even necessarily to offer coping strategies (or at least not too quickly and not before checking they are wanted). Just simply to slow down, breathe, acknowledge, and allow what is unfolding and releasing. To be with the other person, companioning them on their journey and trusting in their own innate wisdom.
Thank you Vicki! I can't believe I missed this article! Thanks for your Substack timing, EMDR is something I've researched and I'll share more about in my article Sunday 8th. So I'll share article as reference.
Oh great, thanks Victoria. EMDR has completely transformed my therapy practice, the deep shifts on the cognitive, emotional and somatic levels people experience are profound to witness.
I am loving this introduction to the list of authors. I can't wait to read about everyone's take on crying! It is also such a great idea to make this an open invitation.
Thanks, Rachel - I hope authors-creators will write something on their own publications and share the URL here. Feel free to write your own message sharing this invitation. I didn't want to say this was a discussion thread, because it really is an invitation for new/already published pieces.
I'm going to share some Substack essays about crying that I've read or saved to read over time. Here's one: "It's Okay to Cry, It's Okay Not to Cry" by @susanfrybort
What a gift to be invited into this community collaboration. Thank you, Victoria and team. I'm loving the pieces so far and excited for what's to come! I'm also waiting to find out if I'll be moved to tears - as you'll read, they don't come as easily for me these days.
Thanks for putting together this list of team members. It helps me to get to know each member a bit more and what their Substack is about. I'll be sharing it! It's also great to invite everyone on Substack to share their take and experience with crying. I remember seeing one recently and will invite the author to share.
Thanks to YOU, Sarah and each of our team members! It feels good to be exploring such a human topic in a diverse way—synergising ideas. It can feel lonely in front of a computer screen...or it DID, not now though ;-)
P.S I kinda love how our different timezones / work times help us! ;-)
Victoria, I smiled as I read your list of collaborators. You have some of my favorite writers and thinkers among your dream team. Very fun that you extend the invitation widely to share on the topic of tears. I will reflect on this. I wrote a 100+ page workbook some years back to give people a way to work through grief associated with disability or health issues. I believe I have a story in there about crying, and I may choose that excerpt to share. Tears cleanse and heal.

There are so many emotions with tears, it's great to see the engagement.

Perfect, thanks Louisa! I think I discovered at least 5 different ways to link the team🤣 (laughing tears of the nerdy me)
Laughing nerdy laughs with you!!!
Victoria, I love this invitation for everyone to share and am glad to be part of this team of collaborators. Thank you for spearheading this! ♥️
