Dear Reader,
Hello, Dear Reader! Welcome to our new Carer Mentor community members!
I’m Victoria. You can read why I’m publishing Carer Mentor here: Who Started Carer Mentor and Why?
This article is part of a series focused on ‘Emotional Agility.’ The mindset and tools have been essential to me, and I advocate their benefits to my mentoring clients and other caregivers.
At its core, emotional agility is about the capacity to see ourselves and others in a wholehearted and healthy way. It’s a set of essential psychological skills for our complex world—a world that often chooses not to see. It is more than just a skill set I teach, it’s what I try to live by, and I am so grateful to have the opportunity to share it with you.- Dr. Susan David
‘Stepping Out’ is one of several tools, a skill we can practice to improve Emotional Agility.
Watch this short video to learn how "stepping out" can help you feel an emotion or think a thought but not be controlled by it.
Susan David encourages you to ask yourself, "Who is in charge? The thinker or the thought?"

An Interview: Dr. Susan David 'Emotional Agility'
Emotional agility is the ability to healthily engage with our thoughts, emotions, and stories to lead a life congruent with our values. It involves four steps: showing up, stepping out, walking your why, and moving on.
Embracing the discomfort of negative emotions is crucial, as they are often ‘signposts’ of what we care about. Emotional agility is a critical skill set in navigating life's challenges and changes.
Love this idea of emotional agility - quite similar to an idea I've been playing with called nurturing emotional fluidity. Thanks for sharing Victoria!
