Hello, Friends. If you’re new to Carer Mentor, you can learn more about me through Who Started Carer Mentor and Why?

The Carer Mentor Community Hub is a new section on the Carer Mentor Website.

It’s time…

The Carer Mentor Website has grown. Its mission remains unchanged, while the website itself has evolved many times. Thanks to you, the resources are reaching more and more people who need them.

I’ve been sharing articles and connecting Carer Mentor subscribers for a while. I believe it’s essential to build a network where we can help as many people as possible together.

Why build a Community Hub?

Many caregivers don’t have the time, energy or inclination to scroll through a feed of general notes and articles to find what they’re looking for. They need a place to connect with like-minded souls to exchange ideas and ask questions, without being tied to a specific time, date, or place.

For carers joining this platform (Substack), navigating everything can be overwhelming, and finding others with similar interests can be difficult. Our community can support newcomers.

Over the last week, I’ve had several conversations with caregivers about how stressful this year's ‘festive period’ is for them. For some, it’s just another day of juggling the care routine, but now compounded with expectations and niceties they’d rather avoid. Or there’s been an emergency and someone’s in hospital, and they’ve no clue about how to navigate the discharge or care - forget about Christmas! Or, at worst, they know every gift exchange will involve some level of care-splaining by several well-meaning people.

I’m offering Carer Mentor subscribers a space to meet, mingle, and feel understood—Empathy and Insights with meaningful connections and resonance.

This is to help us sustain our connections, beyond one comment or note

I can’t do this alone. Can you help me help others?

The Community Hub is for you if

  • You’re a caregiver seeking support and connection

  • Anyone on the cusp or anticipating being a caregiver

  • Someone with a chronic condition, illness or disability who’s seeking support, connection

  • Anyone seeking tips and recommendations about caregiving, bereavement and grief, cancer, disability or illness

  • A former caregiver trying to navigate life after caregiving, or anticipate being a caregiver again

  • Someone with caregiving experience, a chronic condition, illness or disability and is writing about it on Substack

  • A doctor, nurse, chaplain, therapist, hospice carer, charity organisation and anyone who is part of a care team or support for patients and caregivers.

How we roll

This is a community spirit that is: gentle, empathetic, curious, welcoming, respectful, sharing, open, inclusive, collaborative.

It is not imposing, not dominating, not judging, not directive/telling.

Writers will be free to share any resource or pertinent article on the question/topic.

The Community Hub is paywalled and monitored by me.

For those of you who are already patrons of Carer Mentor, you have immediate access to the Community Hub.

Please use this discount to join the community, or contact me so that I can give you free access, no questions asked.

Direct message on Substack or email: vlchin@carermentor.com
